generators and remote light sensors.

2)    Show and label clearly the block diagram of an EFIS.                       5 marks

3)    Describe the operation and function of each unit in the
block diagram as

shown in (ii).  10 marks

Figure 1 shows the architecture of a primitive EFIS system.
There are 3 symbol generators(SGs). SG#1 is the left symbol generator, SG#2 is
the centre symbol generator and SG#3 is the right symbol generator. SG#2 is
only used when either SG#1 or SG#3 malfunction or is faulty in time of flight.
Each SG produces both ND and PFD formats simultaneously. There are 4 display
units(DUs). Each DU displays the format sourced by the respective SG. During
flight, SG#1 sources to PFD#1 and ND#1 which is displayed to the captain while
SG#3 sources to PFD#2 and ND#2 which is displayed to the first officer. The
inputs of each SG are from both the left-hand and right-hand sensors. In the
event of complete failure of the main display system, an independent integrated
standby instrument system (ISIS) is installed on the flight deck to support
crew in
resolving inconsistencies and to provide important flight information such as
airspeed, altitude and attitude.

4)    Show the location and placement of the EFIS display units,
control panel, warning and caution lights of a commercial aircraft in the
cockpit.                 10 marks
